Is taking a distance education course or program
more expensive than a traditional course or program?

College/University Students

The cost of taking a distance education course varies by the institution providing the course, the course level (undergraduate/graduate level), by delivery mode, etc. Typically, costs are about the same between traditional courses and distance education courses when you figure in the travel time to a traditional campus, or the convenience of accessing a course via distance education. The same would be true for enrollment in distance education programs. See also Tuition and Fees.

K-12 Students

K-12 students generally do not pay for courses offered by their school district. If you wish to enroll in a course offered by another school district or online school, you should check first with your school to see if they will cover the cost of tuition.
